A third party has been called in to resolve issues regarding the new union formed by a group of Dutchess County managerial and confidential employees, Personnel Commissioner Earl Bruno said.
The New York State Public Employment Relations Board will help resolve issues between the county and the union known as the Dutchess County Staff Association, which is represented by New York State United Teachers.
In September, a group of county employees formed the union after Legislature Chairman Roger Higgins

Unionized employees at St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic have tentatively agreed to a new contract that extends pay cuts and other concessions until the hospital begins to recover financially.
More than 500 nurses, technicians and other workers ratified a three-year contract, which goes into effect when the current contract expires on Feb. 28.

There was a mixed public reaction to the call by the People's Democracy (PD) for citizens to wear red yesterday in protest of social ills in Trinidad and Tobago.
According to spokesperson David Abdulah the response was not totally unexpected and varied from community to community.
"We haven't got a report as yet but from what we are hearing is that a significant number of people wore red," he said, adding, "It is mixed but some people have definitely heeded the call to wear red."

For the protection of frontline health care and emergency medical workers at high risk of infection, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today issued a compliance directive to ensure uniform procedures when conducting inspections to identify and minimize or eliminate high to very high risk occupational exposures to the 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus.

The Reading Parking Authority board has approved 3 percent raises for its management team and the 40-member employee bargaining unit.
The managers receiving raises are executive director Lawrence H. Lee, to $88,963 from $86,372; maintenance superintendent Richard Knepp, to $58,460 from $56,758; finance manager Christina Gilbert, to $51,872 from $50,362; and parking enforcement superintendent Jon Haney, to $47,668 from $46,280.

The amendment must be approved in two consecutive General Assembly sessions and by voter referendum to take effect.
State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe this week proposed an amendment to the state constitution that would prohibit public school teachers from going on strike.
Calling teachers strikes "disruptive" and "self-serving," Metcalfe, R-Butler, said he wanted to follow the lead of 37 other states that prevent public school teachers from striking.
